How to report an absence
When your student is absent, please provide:
- Student's full name
- Date(s) of absence
- Reason for absence
- Parent/guardian name
You can report an absence in any of the following ways:
- Signed Note: Send a note with your student when they return to school. Student-written notes are accepted if signed by a parent or guardian
- Phone: Call 530-891-3066 ext 40115
- In Person: Stop by the Attendance Desk

Why is regular attendance important?
Students who attend school regularly are more successful academically and stay on track with their learning. Arriving on time and attending every day possible helps students make the most of their education.
What should I do if my student is absent?
A parent or guardian must notify the school and provide:
- Student's first and last name
- Date(s) of absence
- Reason for the absence
- Parent/guardian name
You can report an absence by:
- Sending a signed note with your student when they return
- Calling the Attendance Office at 530-891-3066 ext 40115
- Visiting the Attendance Desk
- Using the online absence form on this page
How long do I have to clear an absence?
Absences must be verified by a parent or guardian within 3 school days. If the absence is not cleared within 3 days, it will be marked as unexcused.
What happens if my student has unexcused absences?
Students with 3 or more unexcused absences may be classified as truant under California Education Code.
What if my student has a doctor's appointment during the school day?
Please have your student attend school before or after the appointment whenever possible. A student who attends part of the day is not considered absent for the entire day.
Does the school receive funding if my student is absent?
No. School funding is based on student attendance. Even attending part of the day helps support student learning and school funding.

Excused Tardies
Students arriving late must check in through the front office and provide one of the following:
- Doctor's note
- Parent note or phone call confirming an appointment
- Parent note or phone call explaining an illness
Unexcused Tardies
Students arriving late for reasons such as oversleeping or running late must check in through the front office before going to class.
Each unexcused tardy results in one day of lunchtime detention, to be served the following school day. Students with excessive tardies may be referred to the Student Attendance Review Board (SARB).

Off-Campus Permits
If your student needs to leave campus during school hours, an Off-Campus Permit must be issued through the Attendance Desk before they leave.
Please provide:
- Student's first and last name
- Reason for leaving
- Time of departure
- Parent/guardian name
You may request an off-campus permit by:
Send a Note
Send a signed note with your student to turn in at the Attendance Desk. This is often the most convenient option, as students can be ready to meet you at the requested time.

Please allow at least 30 minutes notice when possible. Students may be in classes such as P.E. and may need additional time to be located.
Important
All students must be signed out by the authorized adult picking them up.

When should I request Independent Study?
Independent Study may be available for planned absences of 5 or more consecutive school days.
How much notice is required?
Please provide at least 5 school days' advance notice whenever possible.
